She Rejected Him for Three Years, I Dated Him—Now My Best Friend Won’t Speak to Me

She Rejected Him for Three Years, I Dated Him—Now My Best Friend Won’t Speak to Me.

A young woman has taken to social media to pour out her heart after her friendship crumbled over a man her best friend repeatedly turned down.

The lady, who chose to remain anonymous, shared her story on Facebook, seeking advice from the online community. Her post has since sparked conversations about friendship, loyalty, and whether it is ever acceptable to date someone your friend previously rejected.

According to her account, there was a man who pursued her best friend for three years. He was consistent, patient, and clearly interested. But her friend was not having any of it. She refused his advances each time and made it clear she was not interested.

The lady even tried to convince her friend to give him a chance, but the response was firm. Her friend asked her never to mention him again and said he simply was not her type.

Around the beginning of last year, the lady decided to reach out to the man herself. She asked him out, and he agreed. After three dates, she realised he was everything she had ever wanted in a partner. They started dating.

But there was a catch. They chose not to tell her friend, at least not immediately.

When her friend eventually found out, the lady decided to come clean. She explained the situation and told her friend that the man treated her well and that she truly cared for him.

At first, the response seemed positive. Her friend told her she did not mind and that she was happy for her. But just a few hours later, the lady discovered she had been blocked on all social media platforms.

Another friend later informed her that the former best friend had deleted all her pictures from social media and was saying negative things about her.

Now the lady is left confused and hurt. She wrote:

“Did I do anything wrong by dating a man she had rejected for three years?”

She is now seeking advice from social media users on whether she crossed a line or if her friend is being unreasonable.

Since the post went up, opinions have been divided. Some people believe the lady did nothing wrong, arguing that her friend had no claim over a man she repeatedly rejected. Others feel that dating a friend’s former suitor, no matter how long ago, is a breach of trust.

One commenter wrote: “She said no for three years. You waited and asked him out. Where is the offence?”

Another responded: “It doesn’t matter if she rejected him. Some things are just off-limits among friends.”

The lady’s story raises a question many people have faced in one way or another. Can you date someone your friend turned down without damaging the friendship? Or is there an unspoken rule that says some people are forever off-limits?

The lady is clearly heartbroken over the loss of her friend. But she also seems genuinely happy in her new relationship. Finding a balance between the two is not always easy.
