Father sentenced to 92 years for death of infant son placed in sealed bucket.
An Indiana judge has handed down a 92-year prison sentence to a 29-year-old man for the death of his infant son and the violent assault on his wife.
Eliasard Moneus appeared in court where he was sentenced for the crimes that took the life of his 3-month-old child, Jacob. Prosecutors detailed how the events unfolded following a domestic dispute. According to court records, Moneus placed the baby face-down inside a sealed bucket that contained laundry detergent. The child died from a lack of oxygen.

During the same incident, authorities say Moneus attacked his wife with a tire iron. The attack was severe enough to cause a skull fracture. She managed to survive the assault and later contacted emergency services.
The judge presiding over the case did not hold back when describing the actions, calling them “one of the most grotesque murders imaginable.”

Moneus had entered a guilty plea to charges of murder and attempted murder. The sentence was split between the two charges: 62 years for the death of his son and a consecutive term of 30 years for the attack on his wife. Because the sentences will run one after the other, the court indicated that Moneus will likely spend the rest of his life in prison.
Speaking through a translator, Moneus expressed regret for his actions. However, the severity of the crimes led to the lengthy sentence.
