“He Was Begging for His Hands to Be Untied”: How Police Executed a 28-Year-Old Man, According to a Facebook User’s Story

A different version of events surrounding the death of a young Nigerian man in Delta state has surfaced online, thanks to a detailed post by a Facebook user. The man, identified as Oghenemine, was reportedly shot by police officers after being stopped while running an errand for a friend.

According to social media activist Harrison Gwamnishu, who shared the account widely, the deceased was a 28-year-old upcoming artist. His life was cut short not in a gang fight or armed robbery, but during a routine stop that turned deadly.

The Facebook user explained that Oghenemine had been asked by a friend to help pick up a waybill. On his way back, police stopped him. Officers later claimed that the waybill package contained a firearm. But those who have seen the video of the incident are asking a different set of questions.

In the clip that has since gone viral, Oghenemine is seen pleading with the officers. His hands were tied, and he was trying to cooperate. At one point, he started making a confession — saying he was only sent by a friend to collect the waybill. He did not know what was inside.

But according to the Facebook narrative, everything he said was ignored. No investigation was carried out on the spot. No attempt was made to verify his story. Instead, he was shot.

Harrison named the officer involved as Usman Nuhu. But he also pointed out that in the video, more than one policeman was present. Only one person has so far been paraded as the culprit, leaving many Nigerians wondering why the others have not been called to account.

Harrison is now insisting that Officer Nuhu should provide information on who owns the waybill. He argues that since the officer did not properly look into the case before opening fire, he should at least help track the original sender.

In a recent update, Harrison said the Inspector General of Police has ordered that all officers connected to the incident be moved to Abuja. That order has brought a small measure of relief to those following the case, though many say it is only the first step.

For Oghenemine’s family, the pain is still fresh. They initially reported him missing when he did not return home on Sunday. Days went by with no word. Then came the news no family should have to hear — their son was no longer alive.

Relatives are now mourning quietly, while friends and supporters have taken to social media to demand answers.

Across Twitter and Facebook, people are sharing the video and asking how the situation could have been handled differently. Some are calling for a full investigation. Others are simply heartbroken that a young man sent to pick up a parcel ended up dead.

As one commenter put it, “He was begging, and they still pulled the trigger.”

At the time of this report, the police have not released an official statement beyond the parade of the accused officer. But with the IGP now involved, many hope the full story will finally come out.
