Breaking – Presidency Confirms Suspension of Magu, Appoints Umar as EFCC Acting Chairman.
The President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government Friday finally confirmed the appointment of Mohammed Umar as the new Acting Chairman of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
This was coming after the arrest and subsequent suspension of Ibrahim Magu who earlier occupied the position until Monday when the Department of State Services (DSS) operatives took him in for questioning.
This was disclosed in a statement by the Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, through his Special Assistant on Media and Public Relations, Umar Gwandu.
“President Buhari has approved the immediate suspension of Ibrahim Magu as Ag. Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, to allow for unhindered inquiry by the Presidential Investigation Panel under the Tribunals of Inquiry Act & other relevant laws.
“President Buhari has also approved that the EFCC Director of Operations, Mohammed Umar, should take charge and oversee the activities of the Commission pending the conclusion of the ongoing investigation and further directives in that regards,” the statement said.
