Man Who Posed as EFCC Officer Arraigned in Abuja, Pleads Guilty to Four Charges

Man Who Posed as EFCC Officer Arraigned in Abuja, Pleads Guilty to Four Charges.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, brought a man before a Federal Capital Territory High Court in Kubwa on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, for allegedly pretending to be one of their officers.

The defendant, Salifu Olije Mustapha, was arraigned before Justice A.I. Akobi on a four-count charge. The charges bordered on impersonation and misrepresentation.

According to the charge sheet, Mustapha allegedly committed the offences around March 2026. In count two, the court heard that he falsely pretended to be a Nigerian Air Force officer. In that role, he was accused of helping two other people – one named Abubakar who is now at large, and another named Haruna Mamuda who is being investigated by a different agency.

The three of them were reportedly dressed in EFCC operational uniforms. They drove around in a Toyota Corolla with registration number KTU399GT to Sheriff Plaza in Wuse II, Abuja. The goal, according to the charge, was to defraud unsuspecting members of the public.

Count three stated that Mustapha impersonated a public servant by presenting himself as an officer of the Nigerian Air Force. In that false character, he allegedly went on to defraud people.

When all four charges were read to him, Mustapha pleaded guilty to each one. That admission pushed the prosecution counsel, R.U Adaga, to ask the court to convict and sentence him right away.

Justice Akobi, however, decided to take some time. The judge adjourned the matter to June 1, 2026, for sentencing. Until then, Mustapha will wait to hear what penalty the court will hand down.

The EFCC said Mustapha was arrested after officers received actionable intelligence that someone was pretending to be one of them. When they tracked him down, they reportedly spotted him in a fake EFCC uniform. Two other suspects were with him at the time. The three were said to be harassing motorists and taking money from them under false pretenses.

With a guilty plea already on record, the upcoming sentencing hearing is likely to move quickly. The court will decide whether Mustapha will serve time, pay a fine, or both. For now, the case serves as a warning to anyone thinking about putting on a uniform that does not belong to them.

Toktok9ja Media will keep following this case and report on the sentencing when it happens on June 1, 2026.
