Oba Of Lagos’s Son Prince Adewale Oyekan Sentenced To Death For Murder.

A 50- year-old Lagos state Prince by the name Adewale Oyekan, and a former domestic servant, Lateef Balogun, were on Monday sentenced to death by an Ikeja High Court for the murder of one Alhaja Sikirat Ekun, a 62- year- old businesswoman and politician.

Adewale is the son of late Oba Adeyinka Oyekan, Oba of Lagos, who died on March 1, 2003.

According to investigations, the prince hired Balogun for N6, 000 to kill the woman who according to them owed them money.

The suspects, who have been in prison custody for seven years, murdered Ekun by strangling her and throwing her corpse inside a 1, 000- feet well in her house.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) gave reports that Justice Raliatu Adebiyi, in a two- hour judgment, said that the prosecution shows that the charges of conspiracy to commit murder and murder beyond a reasonable doubt.

She said: ” The circumstantial evidence was very strong and cogent; the act of the defendants in killing the deceased was intentional and bad so with that the suspect deserved to be sentenced to death.

The court after series of evidence finds that the prosecution was proved beyond a reasonable doubt that there was an offense of conspiracy and murder, and the defendants are accordingly found guilty of the two-count charge levels against them.

Section 221 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011, stipulates the punishment for the offense of murder as follows.

The chief judge said that Subject to the provisions of any other law, a person who commits the offense of murder shall be sentenced to death.

The same is the punishment for conspiracy to commit murder as contained in Section 231 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

With this the Oba son and his accomplice were sentenced to death.

It was a very sad one for the royal family.
