See the Faces of 73 Hausa Men With Motorcycles Heading To Imo State Intercepted by Army.
The troops of the 72 Special Forces Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Markurdi, intercepted about 73 young men from Nassarawa State.
The young Hausa men were said to be on their way to Imo State when they were intercepted at Agan toll gate in Markurdi by soldiers, who were working on an intelligent report.
The young men had with them 47 Bajaj motorcycles loaded in five trucks transporting some minerals from Plateau State to a Port Harcourt- based company.
Benson Abounu, the Deputy Governor of Benue State, commended the troops for their diligence and professional conduct when he visited the scene last Tuesday.
He said, despite all efforts to escape being arrested, the soldiers were able to stop the trucks and arrested all the men.
Abounu said the speculations that a truck loaded with arms and men with the aim to attack the town was false, saying that, ” No arms were found after a thorough search conducted by the soldiers. “
Abounu wondered how such a big army of young men from the same state could be seen together and embarking on a journey to Imo State, ” which they know to be experiencing serious security challenges at the moment. “
The Deputy Governor urged the security forces to carry out a detailed profiling of the 73 men for further actions as their stories did not add up.
Lt. Col. A. D Alhassan, the Commander of the 72 Special Forces Brigade, had earlier said that he and his men intercepted the truck, immediately the got the information that they were heading to Markurdi.
Col. Alhassan said his soldiers spent several hours waiting for the travelers before they finally arrived at Markudi in the night.
The commander said that a thorough search had been carried out on the young men, all goods offloaded and their motorcycles dismantled and properly searched but no arms were found.
One of the young men arrested, identified as Emmanuel Ayugwa, said they were going to Imo state for Okada business.
