Teacher Dies After Getting a Serious Warning From the Parent of a Student He Flogged.
A teacher and school administrator has died under circumstances that have left colleagues and friends searching for answers. Major Usoroh, a well-known figure in the Ibom Rant community and a teacher, passed away days after an encounter with a student’s parent that turned threatening.
According to accounts shared by those who knew him, Usoroh had disciplined a student through flogging, an action that led to the child fainting at school. The child was rushed to the hospital and later regained consciousness. But the incident did not end there.
The parents of the student reportedly came to the school and made threats against the teacher. Days after those threats were issued, Usoroh was found dead in his sleep.
Douglas, a colleague who narrated the events, expressed disbelief at how quickly things changed. “I saw him on Friday at Uniuyo, he was very sound,” Douglas wrote. “Boom the news of his demise broke out on Sunday.”

The suddenness of the death has left many questioning what happened. Usoroh was described as a popular administrator, well-regarded within the Ibom Rant online community. His passing has reignited conversations about the safety of teachers and the pressures they face when carrying out disciplinary duties.

The case adds to a growing list of incidents where teachers have faced violence or threats from parents. In recent months, the country has witnessed several tragic cases that have raised alarms about how educators are being treated.
In June 2026, Maryam Usman, a 22-year-old teacher at Brains Minds Nursery and Primary School in Kogi State, died after she was allegedly assaulted by the father of one of her pupils . The pupil had been disciplined for misconduct and fell, injuring his arm . The father, accompanied by others, reportedly attacked the teacher at her residence and later at her workplace. She died on June 25 after being hospitalised. Police have since arrested three suspects in connection with her death.

There have also been claims in the Kogi case that the pupil’s injury may not have come from the teacher’s discipline but from a fall while climbing a cashew tree . Regardless of the details, the outcome was the same – a teacher lost her life.
In a similar incident in Delta State in 2023, Sunday Ufah, a physics teacher at Alihami Secondary School in Agbor, died after a confrontation with a parent . The parent had come to the school after his son was flogged for stealing palm wine. During the argument, the teacher slumped and was confirmed dead on arrival at the hospital.
The death of Usoroh has once again brought the issue of corporal punishment and teacher safety into the spotlight. While some argue that teachers should have the authority to discipline students, others say the use of flogging often goes too far and puts children at risk.

One thing that many people agree on is that threats and violence against teachers are unacceptable. Educators are already dealing with large class sizes, limited resources, and low pay. Adding the fear of parent attacks to their daily concerns makes an already tough job even harder .
As of the time of this report, authorities have not released an official statement on the circumstances surrounding Usoroh’s death. However, calls are growing for a proper investigation so that his family and colleagues can get the answers they deserve.
