Death by Hanging for Driver Who Killed Former Employers in Apo Quarters.
The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has announced a major breakthrough in a murder case that shook the Apo Legislative Quarters in Abuja last year. The police have secured a conviction against Jonathan Marcus, a former driver who was found guilty of killing his ex-employers, 80-year-old Adebola Ezekiel and his wife, Abiodun Ezekiel.
The FCT High Court, presided over by Justice M. S. Idris, handed down the death sentence to Marcus after finding him guilty of the double murder. The court ruled that the prosecution had presented enough evidence to prove its case beyond any reasonable doubt.
The tragic event took place on April 1, 2024, at the couple’s residence in Zone D of the Apo Legislative Quarters. The police launched a full-scale investigation immediately after the incident was reported. Their efforts led them to Obajana in Kogi State, where Marcus had fled to avoid arrest. He was tracked down and brought back to Abuja to face questioning.

During police interrogation, Marcus confessed to breaking into the home of the deceased around 11 p.m. on the night of the murder. He admitted to killing both Mr. and Mrs. Ezekiel, two elderly individuals who had once employed him as their driver. According to police reports, Marcus had been dismissed from his job following repeated disagreements with his employers.
The case drew attention from residents and observers across the nation, many of whom expressed shock that someone could harm elderly people they had once worked for. The police, however, remained focused on ensuring that justice was served.
After the confession and a thorough investigation, the police arraigned Marcus before the FCT High Court. The prosecution team worked diligently to present a strong case, calling witnesses and presenting evidence that tied Marcus to the crime. The court listened to arguments from both sides before reaching its decision.

Justice Idris, in delivering the verdict, stated that the prosecution had met all the legal requirements to secure a conviction. The court sentenced Jonathan Marcus to death by hanging for the murder of Adebola Ezekiel and Abiodun Ezekiel.

In a statement released to the public, the FCT Police Command reassured residents of Abuja that the security of lives and property remains a top priority. The Command, through its Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, said the conviction serves as a warning to anyone who might consider taking the law into their own hands or committing violent crimes.
The police also thanked members of the public for their cooperation during the investigation and encouraged residents to continue working with security agencies to keep the Federal Capital Territory safe.
The case has once again raised questions about the relationship between domestic staff and their employers, with many calling for better background checks and security measures in private homes.

As the family of the deceased continues to mourn their loss, many have found some comfort in the fact that justice has been served. The police have said they will continue to pursue all criminal cases with the same level of dedication and thoroughness.
