Delta Killing: Social Media User Believes Late Delivery Man Was Set Up Before Police Shooting

Delta Killing: Social Media User Believes Late Delivery Man Was Set Up Before Police Shooting.

The killing of Mene Ogidi in Delta State has already sparked outrage across Nigeria. But now, a social media user has added a new layer to the story – one that suggests the young man may have been set up from the beginning.

Ogidi, the only son of his mother, was shot dead by a police officer identified as ASP Nuhu Usman. The officers said they found guns inside a parcel he had been sent to deliver. He was never taken to court. He was never given a lawyer. According to eye witnesses, he was killed on the spot while other policemen stood by and watched.

But a Facebook user, whose post has since been shared hundreds of times, is asking people to look closer.

“The Same Person Who Sent Him Also Called the Police”

The user, whose name is being withheld here, wrote at length about what he believes really happened.

“I believe this boy was set up by whoever sent him to collect the waybill,” the post reads. “The same person also informed the police. The way they quickly killed him shows it was all planned.”

The post then describes the final moments of Ogidi’s life in a way that has left many readers disturbed.

“You caught him and tied both hands behind his back. Stripped of any chance to defend himself. He wasn’t fighting. He wasn’t running. He was begging. Begging for a chance. Begging you to take him to Sapele, to show you someone – anyone – who could speak for him, who could prove his innocence.”

The user added: “But you didn’t listen. You pulled the trigger and ended his voice. His plea. His chance to be heard.”

For those following the case, the pain is made worse by the fact that Ogidi was his mother’s only child. Families who lose an only son in Nigeria often carry that weight for generations. There is no one else to carry the name forward.

The public reaction has been raw. Many Nigerians are demanding justice, though some online have expressed doubt that anything will change.

One commenter wrote: “He will just be discharged and might not even go to prison.” That post received thousands of likes.

Another person said: “What justice is even enough for Nigerians anymore? We have seen this play out too many times. A young man dies. The police promise an investigation. Then nothing happens.”

Questions No One Has Answered

The new theory from the Facebook user raises several questions that have not been addressed by the police.

If Ogidi was truly set up, who sent him to pick up the waybill? Did that person know what was inside the parcel? And how did the police arrive so quickly – almost as if they were waiting?

The police have not yet released a full statement responding to these claims. Attempts to reach the Delta State Police Command for comment were not successful as of the time this report was filed.

For now, the family of Mene Ogidi is left with a dead son and no clear answers. Social media continues to boil with anger, but anger alone has never brought back a young man who was begging for his life with his hands tied behind his back.

Many Nigerians no longer trust that the system will work. And when a delivery boy can be killed without a trial – possibly set up by someone he trusted – that lack of trust begins to feel less like suspicion and more like lived experience.
