More than two years after the October 7 attack on Israel, a newly surfaced photograph is reminding the world of the brutality of that day. The image shows a Hamas fighter posing for the camera inside a room before reportedly killing an elderly Israeli woman who was bedridden and her Filipina caregiver.
The attack happened on October 7, 2023. Hamas led a large-scale, surprise assault from the Gaza Strip into southern Israel. By the time the day was over, more than 1,200 people had been killed, most of them civilians. Another 251 were taken hostage. It was the deadliest single day for Israel since the country was established in 1948.

The photograph now circulating online captures a moment that many find hard to process. According to the person who shared the photo, the fighter is seen smiling for a shot just before carrying out the killing. The post read: “A Hamas terrorist proudly poses for a photo before cowardly murdering a bedridden elderly Israeli woman and her Filipina caregiver on October 7. How can anyone support Hamas?”
The attack, which Hamas named “Operation Al-Aqsa Flood,” began early in the morning. Around 6:30 am, thousands of rockets were fired toward Israel. That was quickly followed by ground forces breaking through border barriers. What followed was hours of fighting, house-to-house assaults, and the targeting of families in their own homes and communities.
Israel responded by declaring war. That decision launched a military operation inside Gaza aimed at removing Hamas from power and rescuing the hostages still being held. The war that followed has since spread into a wider regional conflict.
As of early May 2026, the numbers coming out of Gaza are staggering. According to the Gaza Health Ministry and international media reports, more than 72,000 Palestinians have been killed since the war began. Around 80 percent of those killed are believed to be civilians. Over 171,000 people have also been reported injured. These figures are frequently used by United Nations agencies and other humanitarian groups.
For many people online, the latest photo is not new information about what happened on October 7. But it is a fresh reminder. The image brings the cruelty of that morning back into focus. One user commented, “We keep seeing new proof every year. The world should not forget.”
Another person wrote, “That elderly woman could not even get out of bed. And they still killed her. And her helper too.”
The caregiver, believed to be from the Philippines, was also killed in the same room. Neither of them had a chance to run or fight back.
