‘I Told Him I Was a Virgin’: Last Video of 20-Year-Old Lady Who Died by Suicide After She Was Raped by Popular Content Creator, Asaba Odogwu,

The young lady’s final video message went viral, leading to the content creator’s arrest by the Delta State Police.

In a case that has triggered widespread outrage across Nigeria, a popular Asaba-based content creator has been taken into police custody following allegations that he raped a 20-year-old lady who later died after taking a poisonous substance. The young woman, who had travelled from Warri to Asaba hoping to learn content creation, recorded an emotional final video before her death. In the video, she named the content creator as the one responsible for her tragic fate.

“My name is Favour from Warri. This will be the last video of me in the whole world. By the time you see this video, I will already be dead, and the cause of my death is Odogwu Asaba.” These are the heartbreaking words from the late Favour Agbro, a 20-year-old nursing student, in a video that has since gone viral.

In the video, she explained that she had reached out to the suspect online after watching his posts about teaching young people how to earn money through TikTok and Facebook monetisation. At the time, she was going through financial difficulties and struggling to pay for her education.

According to Favour, she had told him about another man who had invited her to Abuja to help her financially, but she declined because she was not willing to exchange sex for money. She wanted to earn money through hard work instead.

The content creator, who runs a programme teaching people content creation, offered to help Favour. He asked her to come to Asaba, saying he only trains people physically. Before travelling, Favour had made her position clear in their WhatsApp conversation. She told him she was a virgin and not interested in any relationship.

“I texted him that I need his advice, so he would be able to give me any idea on how to make money, or just advice. I just needed someone to talk to because I don’t have friends,” she said in the video.

“He asked me to meet him in Asaba on Friday, that he was going to help me. He did not tell me that he was going to sleep with me before helping me,” she recounted.

When she arrived in Asaba, the suspect took her to a hotel room. What started as a mentorship meeting quickly turned into something else. Favour said the man professed his affection for her and started making unwanted advances.

“I then told him, please, I cannot do it. I’m still a virgin. Even if I want to do it, I will do it with someone I’m dating, for love and not for money. I cannot do it for money or anything else,” she said in the emotional recording.

She said he ignored her refusals and kept pushing. “He pulled off my clothes, but I still said no.” When she tried to stand up and leave, things got worse. “He turned my back to the ground and used his hand and covered my mouth and pressed my back on the bed. That was how he raped me, and I was shouting, but nobody could hear because my voice couldn’t go far because of the pressure of his hand on my mouth,” she narrated.

She said she started bleeding heavily immediately after.

The most hurtful part, according to Favour, was what the suspect said after. “The worst part is when he said, ‘Thank God,’ that I don’t know how I made him feel. That he has been wanting to experience how to disvirgin a girl. That he has never done it before, and that he has been craving it,” she recounted with tears .

“He said he was so happy doing this. I asked him, are you telling me you are happy doing this? Did I do it with you? You raped me, and you are still telling me that you are happy doing this,” she said.

Favour said she went into the bathroom and cried while washing blood from her body. The suspect later apologised, but she felt helpless. She worried that nobody would believe her because of his influence and money. “If I called the police, they would say I’m still at fault. Besides, the deed has been done. They might still say it was not rape because I’m up to 20 years. I’m 21 years,” she said.

“I just said this thing has happened, even though I’m not happy, I will still forgive him. I cannot arrest him, I cannot do anything. Even if I decided to arrest him, he has influence, he is popular. His money will kill the case,” she added.

After returning to Warri, she told her family and twin sister what happened. The trauma and emotional distress became too much to bear. She later purchased insecticide and consumed it. She was rushed to a medical facility but died while receiving treatment.

Following a petition filed by a human rights activist, the Commissioner of Police in Delta State, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, directed the Area Command in Effurun to begin a thorough investigation.

The police swiftly arrested Ifeanyi Ogbonna, a 40-year-old content creator popularly known as “Odogwu of Asaba”. According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the suspect allegedly invited the victim to Asaba under the guise of teaching her content creation, lured her to his hotel room, and allegedly tortured and raped her .

During preliminary investigation, the suspect reportedly made useful statements to the police.

A video has surfaced online showing the handcuffed suspect apologising to the family of the deceased. In the clip, he was seen pleading with Favour’s parents and her twin sister for forgiveness.

“This is a very terrible mistake; I’m ready to give up everything. Please forgive me,” he said in the video.

The Commissioner of Police has assured the family of the deceased and the public that the case will be thoroughly investigated, with no aspect of the allegations overlooked .

The suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue. The police have urged members of the public to allow the investigation to run its course while assuring that anyone found culpable will face the law.

Favour’s tragic death has left many questioning the safety of young people seeking mentorship and opportunities online. A young nursing student who only wanted to learn and build a better future is now gone, leaving behind a grieving family and a twin sister who will have to carry this loss forever.
