Outrage as Civil Defence Chief Superintendent Accused of Scalding Teenage Maid With Hot Water.
Victim hospitalised with severe burns as neighbours allege pattern of abuse and obstruction of justice
A senior officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) is facing serious allegations after reportedly pouring hot water on her teenage domestic worker and preventing her from seeking medical attention.
Favour Achor, a Chief Superintendent with the NSCDC stationed in Nasarawa State, is accused of inflicting burn injuries on 15-year-old Mercy Hajara Mohammed, a girl from Kontagora in Niger State who lived with her as a maid. The teenager is currently receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre in Keffi.
According to reports, neighbours residing at Walidah Estate in Keffi, where the officer lives, have come forward to say this was not an isolated incident. They claim Achor has been in the habit of beating and starving the child for some time.
One neighbour, speaking on condition of anonymity, told reporters that the matter had previously been reported to the police, but no action was taken at the time. There are suggestions that the officer may have used her official position to influence the outcome of that earlier complaint.

The girl’s father is reportedly hesitant to push for justice because of Achor’s standing within the security agency. This fear highlights the difficulty many families face when seeking redress against those in positions of authority.
Photos and videos circulating online show the teenager with a disfigured breast, though the specific reason for the alleged assault has not been made clear. Reports indicate that after pouring the hot water, Achor locked the girl inside the house, preventing her from getting timely help and making the injuries worse.

The NSCDC has confirmed that administrative disciplinary proceedings are underway against Superintendent Achor Favour over the allegations. The case has sparked widespread anger on social media, with many calling for justice for Mercy Mohammed.
Civil society groups and human rights advocates have called on the NSCDC Commandant General, the Nasarawa State Police Command, and the National Human Rights Commission to launch an immediate and transparent investigation.
