President responds to Tehran’s war reparation requests with counter-demand spanning five decades of conflict.

President Donald Trump has announced that he will seek financial compensation from Iran for American military personnel killed or wounded in conflicts linked to Tehran, as well as for Iranian citizens who died during protests over the past 50 years.

The President’s demand comes in response to Iran’s request for compensation for damage caused during the five-month military conflict between the two nations. Taking to Truth Social, Trump described Tehran’s reparation request as “an interesting idea” and used it as an opening to lodge his own counter-claims.

“I am likewise demanding compensation from Iran, for all of the people that they have killed and gravely wounded with their roadside bombs and many conflicts, for which they are famous, as led initially by General Soleimani,” Trump wrote.

The President specifically mentioned the families of those killed in the 2000 USS Cole bombing, which claimed the lives of 17 U.S. sailors, along with “thousands of others killed in combat” . While the Cole attack has historically been attributed to al-Qaeda, Trump has previously sought to link Iran to the incident.

In an unusual expansion of his demand, Trump also called for compensation to be paid to the families of Iranian protesters who died during domestic unrest over the past five decades. He claimed that “hundreds of thousands of innocent protestors” had been killed by the Iranian regime during this period, including 52,000 over the last five months alone.

“I have instructed my representatives to put this firmly into any, and all, future negotiations,” Trump stated in his social media post.

Iran has tied its reparation requests to conditions for reopening the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial shipping lane for global oil supplies that has been effectively blocked since the conflict began in February.

According to Iranian officials, the full reopening of the strategic waterway depends on the U.S. agreeing to compensate Iran for war damage, lifting sanctions, ending the naval blockade, and releasing frozen Iranian assets.

The Revolutionary Guards have stated that the strait will remain closed until Washington meets all of Tehran’s conditions . Iranian security chief Mohammad Bagher Zolghadr has called for an end to “war and aggression” against Iran and its regional allies across Lebanon, Palestine, Yemen, and Iraq.

The ongoing conflict has created political challenges for the Trump administration ahead of the November mid-term elections. The war, now in its sixth month, remains unpopular even among Republican voters, and rising fuel prices have become a primary concern in rural areas that have traditionally supported the President.
