Tragedy – Vigilante Group Ambushed and Killed By Bandits During A Meeting in Niger State.
The people of Mashegu council area of Niger State was thrown into mourning on Tuesday, after some armed bandits invaded the village, ambush some vigilante members, killing seven of them in the process
According to TheNation, the sad incident occurred on Monday when the vigilantes were planning to attack the bandits, after Informants leak information of the meeting to the bandits.
While giving details of the tragic incident, a resident in the community said the bandits rounded up the vigilantes and opened fire, killing seven of them on the spot and injuring others.
Not only that, the bandits was said to have gone further to set no fewer than 50 motorcycles belonging to the vigilantes which were parked where the meeting was taking place on fire.
Consequently, in his reaction, the Niger state SSG, Alhaji Ahmed Matane confirmed the incident, and added that the government was working to reduce the incident of banditry.
Recall recently they’ve been a spike in bandits activities in some Northern states, and despite several efforts by the government and the military to flush them out, the country still records high attacks from the hands of the notorious armed bandits.
Similarly, while some Northern Governors are of the opinion that the government should dialogue with the bandits, others argued that they should rather be dealt with by the security agents, because dialoguing with them will only escalate the crisis.
But in all, some prominent Nigerians have have asked the President, Muhammadu Buhari to sack it Service Chiefs and replace them with more competent hands that can inject fresh ideas that help can help the country conquer the insecurity woes being faced.
