Vulcanizer Opens Up on Why He Killed and Beheaded Nursing Student in Imo State (Video).
A quiet community in Imo State has been thrown into shock. A nursing student has been found dead inside her apartment. And the person reportedly behind it is someone she knew from a place many students visit every day — a phone charging shop.
The victim has been identified as Ms. Wendy Achumba. She was a nursing student from Ngwa, Abia State. Her body was discovered in her apartment at the College of Nursing, Umulogho, in Obowo Local Government Area of Imo State. According to police sources, she was not just killed. Her head was also cut off.

The main suspect is a vulcanizer named Onyema Okonkwo. He owns a shop where students often go to charge their phones and power banks. That was how he met Wendy. From there, reports say he started asking her out. He made advances. But she turned him down. More than once.
He did not take it well.

According to a video confession currently circulating online, Okonkwo admitted to trailing Wendy. He wanted to know exactly where she lived. After figuring out her apartment, he allegedly struck.
But he did not come alone.

Confession videos and police sources suggest he brought along an accomplice. Together, they broke into her home. What followed is difficult to write. Reports say the two men took turns violating her. Then, they slit her throat. The reason, according to the confession, was most likely because she recognised them. They could not let her go free.
What makes this case even more disturbing is how quiet everything was. Her apartment was locked from the inside? No. Wait. Let me be clear. Reports say the apartment showed no clear sign of forced entry. There were no sounds of gunshots. No loud shouts. Nothing that made neighbours raise an alarm. In a hostel area where students live close to one another, nobody heard a thing.

She was found naked. That has led investigators to believe she was also raped before she died. Her phone was missing. The suspect reportedly took it before leaving.
Now, let me talk about Obowo for a moment. People who know the area will tell you — Obowo has long been considered the most peaceful local government area in Imo State. Even during the height of the ESN and Biafra-related tensions in the southeast, Obowo stayed mostly calm. There were no regular killings. No daily attacks. The only major incident many residents still remember was the burning of the only police station in Otokoro. That happened about two years ago. Unknown gunmen were behind it. I am not sure if Governor Hope Uzodinma has rebuilt that police station or not. But that is a conversation for another day.

What matters now is this. A young woman who went to school to become a nurse is gone. A vulcanizer who charged phones for students is now sitting in police custody. And a community that once prided itself on peace is asking hard questions.
Police have since confirmed that an investigation is underway. They are working to recover Wendy’s missing phone and any other evidence that can help build a strong case.

For now, her family is mourning. Her classmates are in shock. And many young women in that area are now looking over their shoulders, wondering who might be watching them.
May her soul rest in peace. And may justice come quickly.
