Viral South African Activist Thato Molosankwe Who Told Foreigners to Close Their Shop Shot Dead at His Home.

A community activist from Mahikeng who appeared in a heated video telling foreign shop owners to shut down their business has been shot dead.

The man, identified as Thato Molosankwe, was killed at his own house. Reports say he was shot five times. The attack happened just days after a video of him went viral across social media.

In that video, Molosankwe was seen confronting Somali tuck shop owners. He told them in clear terms to close their shop before Friday. He said they had no right to trade in the area and must vacate the premises immediately.

The video spread quickly and sparked strong reactions from different sides. Some people backed his message. Others called it intimidation and hate speech.

Now, Molosankwe is dead. And many are asking the same question: did his words cost him his life?

The killing happened at his home in Mahikeng. According to sources close to the matter, the gunmen came to his house and opened fire. He was hit five times and died on the spot. No arrests have been announced yet.

What makes this case even more painful is the timing. Molosankwe gave the foreign shop owners a deadline to leave before Friday. But he did not make it to that Friday himself. He left this world before the people he ordered to leave.

The Somali shop owners have not been linked to the killing. Police have not named any suspects or said whether they are looking at the confrontation as a possible motive. But community members are already drawing their own connections.

One resident who spoke to our reporter said, “You cannot go on camera and threaten people like that and expect nothing to happen. It is sad that he died, but this was waiting to happen.”

Another person said, “He was only saying what many of us were thinking. But the way he said it was too aggressive. Now his family is paying the price.”

Tensions between locals and foreign shop owners have been high in many parts of South Africa for years. Nigerian, Somali, Pakistani and Bangladeshi traders are often accused of taking over small businesses in townships and rural areas. Sometimes these frustrations boil over into violence.

But this time, the person doing the talking has ended up dead.

Thato Molosankwe was not a politician or a public figure before this video. He was known in his neighbourhood as someone who spoke his mind. But that same boldness may have brought enemies to his doorstep.’
