“We Killed Her Because We Needed Money to Rent an Apartment” – Suspect Confesses in Murder of Retired Ogun Broadcaster.
A former security guard has confessed to participating in the killing of a retired Ogun State broadcaster and her guard, saying he and his accomplices needed money to rent an apartment.
Sodeinde Olajuwon Phillips, 22, who once worked as a security guard for Mrs. Olakitan Ibiyola Oyesiku, popularly known as “Aunty Kitan,” made the shocking admission during interrogation by the Ogun State Police Command . The retired broadcaster, who worked with Ogun State Television (OGTV) and produced programmes like ‘New Dawn’ and ‘Prime Woman’, was found dead in her home in the Kobape area of Abeokuta alongside her 38-year-old security guard, Pelumi Adetayo.

The bodies were discovered on June 21, 2026, after neighbours raised the alarm following suspicious activity at the residence . The 67-year-old broadcaster was lying in a pool of blood with blood-soaked tissue beside her, and her Lexus RX 330 was missing from the compound.

According to the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, a handwritten note found at the scene became a critical piece of evidence . The note was found on Oyesiku’s chest with a different handwriting on another paper spread across the table . Forensic examination of the note gave investigators leads that helped them track down those responsible.
Phillips, who was arrested at a construction site in Ibara GRA where he worked as a labourer, confessed to recruiting two others for the attack . His accomplices were identified as Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola, 27, a security guard, and Sobu Obafunsho, 36, a bricklayer.

In his confession, Phillips said, “She didn’t pay me well when I worked with her, Shakirudeen and I needed more money to rent an apartment that’s why we killed her” . He disclosed that they wore masks, forced the security guard to ring the bell, and after gaining entry, took the guard back to his post where he was killed with a hammer found in the house . According to him, Ayoola rented a cutlass used in the attack.

The suspects collected the car keys from the broadcaster before she died and drove off to Onikolobo, where they abandoned the vehicle after removing the number plates and ignition key .
The police recovered the stolen Lexus near Phillips’ residence through technical tracking operations . A broken hammer, cutlass, plank, and black pen were recovered from locations linked to the suspects . The Ogun State Police Command has stated that investigations are ongoing and that the suspects will be prosecuted .
