“I Lost My Girl to a Nigerian Man”: South African Man Opens Up About Why He Really Hates Nigerians.
For years, the conversation around xenophobic attacks in South Africa has followed a familiar script. The common story is that foreigners, especially Nigerians, are taking jobs, running away with business opportunities, and squeezing locals out of the market. But a new viral video has turned that story on its head.
One South African man, whose identity has not been confirmed, has come forward with a much more personal reason for his anger. And it has nothing to do with work or money.
In the clip, which has been shared thousands of times across social media, the man makes it clear that he does not dislike all foreigners. In fact, he says he loves Nigerians. But there is one thing he just cannot accept.
“Why do you go around the world stealing people’s girlfriends?” he asks, his voice heavy with frustration.
He then opens up about what happened to him. “I lost my girl to a Nigerian man. Another Nigerian guy stole my friend’s girlfriend,” he says. He goes further, questioning why Nigerian men would leave their own women back home only to come to South Africa and take someone else’s partner.

“Why do you run away from your girls and go around the world stealing people’s women?” he adds.
The video has since exploded online, but not for the reasons you might expect. Instead of backing the man’s feelings, many social media users jumped in to defend Nigerian men. And the reasons they gave have only poured fuel on the fire.
One user said it is an open secret that South African women are drawn to Nigerian men because of how they behave in relationships. “Nigerian men are caring and accommodating. They take care of women,” the user wrote. “When a Nigerian man takes a woman out, he pays everything. South African men will ask the lady to split the bill.”

Another comment went even further, claiming that Nigerian men are simply better in bed. “Maybe that’s why SA women like them,” the user said.
A third person pointed to success and education. “Nigerians own some of the biggest businesses in South Africa. They are educated and business minded. Compared to local men, it makes sense why women choose them.”
The conversation has now moved beyond one man’s heartbreak. Other South Africans have started sharing their own stories, both for and against the claims. Some agree that Nigerian men are more romantic and generous. Others say the issue is not foreigners, but local men who need to step up.
Meanwhile, a few have warned that this kind of talk, even when it starts with love and jealousy, can turn dangerous. Given the country’s history of xenophobic violence, they say blaming any group for stolen girlfriends is not a harmless joke.

But for now, the man in the video stands by his feelings. He lost someone he loved. And in his eyes, the person who took her was not a better man. He was just a Nigerian.
