“I Beg You, Don’t Arrest Him”: 18-Year-Old Abuse Wife Pleads for Husband Despite Severe Injuries – Video

“I Beg You, Don’t Arrest Him”: 18-Year-Old Abuse Wife Pleads for Husband Despite Severe Injuries – Video.

“Don’t arrest him. It will look like it’s my fault. Just let me go.”

Those were the words of an 18-year-old wife, her face swollen and bruised, as she begged for her husband’s freedom from a hospital bed. The young woman, whose identity has not been disclosed, was allegedly assaulted by her husband in an incident that has now gone viral across social media platforms.

According to videos circulating online, the teenager was rushed to a hospital after sustaining visible injuries to her face, including a bloodied eye. The footage quickly caught the attention of social media users and prompted human rights activist Harrison Gwamnishu to visit the hospital and take up her case .

But what happened next shocked many.

In a video recorded at the hospital, the young wife is seen pleading with activists and bystanders not to have her husband arrested. “Please, I am begging you people. The mother does not like me, please. Let me just carry myself and be going,” she said .

She insisted she had no plans to return to the marriage and only wanted to leave peacefully without legal action against her husband.

The same man who had left her injured was also seen attempting to speak with her, reportedly trying to pull her toward him while neighbours intervened. A bystander could be heard accusing the man of repeatedly abusing the young wife, saying, “You want to kill her. This girl is just 18 years. This man is brainwashing her; he is beating her daily.”

Social media erupted with reactions ranging from anger to concern. Many expressed disbelief that a woman so badly injured would plead for her abuser’s release.

One user wrote, “This won’t be the first time he’s beaten her, yet she’s still defending him. There’s nothing worse than a girl brainwashed by a bad boy. Convincing her is like pouring water into a basket – she won’t understand until she learns the hard way, usually too late” .

Another user commented, “She is so scared. 18 years old and married shouldn’t be in the same sentence. Her parents failed her” .

Some observers noted that the young woman appeared disoriented and emotionally attached to her alleged abuser, a situation many described as a classic case of trauma bonding.

Gwamnishu, who has been actively involved in domestic violence advocacy, confirmed that the young woman has been living with the suspect since she was 15 years old and was forced to drop out of school as a result of the relationship .

According to the activist, despite the severity of the injuries she sustained, the woman fiercely defended her husband and fought to prevent his arrest. She reportedly expressed fears of facing backlash from her abuser’s family if he was taken into custody.

Gwamnishu also noted that the woman requires urgent psychological therapy due to the long-term trauma of the relationship . He added that even the suspect’s sisters fear for the victim’s life if she remains in the marriage.

However, authorities have confirmed that the suspect has been arrested. According to Gwamnishu, police took the man into custody while he was detained at the Isolo General Hospital in Lagos, where the young woman is receiving medical treatment .

Investigations revealed the distressing details of the young woman’s situation, including the years she spent under the control of her abuser.

The Lagos State Domestic and $$xual Violence Agency also confirmed it was aware of the case and working on it .

Those following the case have pointed out that this incident is not an isolated one. Neighbours and bystanders in the viral videos alleged that the young wife had been physically assaulted multiple times by her husband.

One eyewitness earlier called on Nigerians for help, describing the husband as manipulative and claiming he beats his wife regularly. The witness wrote, “Nigerians, please come and help this young lady. This manipulative husband wants to kill her. She is his 18-year-old wife here in Ebonyi state. He beats her to stupor regularly and has brainwashed her and refused to let her get help”.

The case highlights the difficult reality of domestic violence intervention. When victims refuse to cooperate with authorities or plead for their abusers’ release, pursuing justice becomes complicated.

Many women remain in abusive relationships due to a mix of fear, emotional attachment, financial dependence, or psychological manipulation . In this young woman’s case, she reportedly began living with the suspect at just 15 years old, suggesting a pattern of grooming and control that has left her emotionally tied to her abuser.

Advocates continue to stress that victims of domestic violence need more than just legal protection – they also require psychological support and safe spaces to escape abuse. The case has also sparked calls for stronger laws protecting minors from early and harmful marriages.

As of the time of this report, the young woman remains hospitalised, and it is not fully clear what steps she plans to take next. What is clear, however, is that her case has opened a painful conversation about domestic violence, the vulnerability of young wives, and how society responds when victims themselves plead for mercy on behalf of their abusers.
