Hushpuppi Sentenced To 11 Year, Three Months Imprisonment

Nigerian internet fraudster, Ramon Abass Olorunwa, popularly known as Hushpuppi has been sentenced to 11 years and three months imprisonment for money laundering conspiracy through several online scams.

Hushpuppi was sentenced by Judge Otis Wright II of the United States District Court sitting Central District of California on Monday, November 7, 2022.

The Instagram big boy was found guilty of allegations including laundering proceeds of a school financing scam, business email compromise, and other fraudulent cyber schemes levied against him.

Hushpuppi was also ordered to pay $1,732,841 in restitution to two fraud victims, by the US District Judge.

In April 2021, Hushpuppi pled guilty to the multi-million-dollar fraud charges filed against him by the United States government.

According to documents from his plea agreement, the former Instagram big boy was involved in several fraudulent schemes that amounted to over $24 million in losses on the part of his victims.

Hushpuppi was arrested back in June 2020 alongside his associates at their residence in Dubai. They were arrested on allegations of fraud by the Dubai Police in an operation tagged “Fox Hunt 2”.

Hushpuppi is alleged to have defrauded over 1.9 million people’s monies amounting to $432.6 million (168 billion).

On July 2nd, he was then sent to the FBI in United States of America by means of extradition.

The self-confessed fraudster spent over two years in US Federal prison before his sentencing.

Prior to her ruling, the US District Court had postponed Huspuppi’s sentencing at least five times this year alone.

The internet fraudster was supposed to be sentenced on February 14th, however, it was moved to July 11tg. Huspuppi’s sentencing was subsequently moved thrice to September 21st, November 3rd, and then November 7th respectively.

According to the FBI, an amount nearly $41 million in cash was confiscated during his arrest. The 39-year-old was also in possession of luxury cars amounting to the tune of $6.8 million, which were also seized by the US government.

Huspuppi has since pleaded guilty to money laundering levied against him by the US.

Before he is arrested, Huspuppi was known to live a flamboyant lifestyle and was very popular on Instagram.
