New Report Claims North Korea’s Kim Jong Un Got $620 Million for Sending 15,000 Troops to Fight for Russia (Video).
A fresh report is making waves online, and it comes with some eye-catching numbers. According to the claim, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un received a huge payment—$620 million—to send thousands of his soldiers to help Russia in its war against Ukraine.
The arrangement reportedly happened around the end of 2024. North Korea sent nearly 15,000 troops to join Russian forces. In return, Pyongyang was paid thousands of dollars for each soldier. Over the first 14 months of the deal, the total payment added up to more than $620 million.
Reports gathered by Toktok9ja Media, at first glance, that sounds like a good business move for the North Korean leader. But the report goes on to say that things did not go exactly as planned once the troops got to the battlefield.

Ukrainian officials who have been monitoring the situation say the North Korean soldiers were not ready for the kind of war they walked into. These days, drones play a huge role in the fighting. And according to those officials, the North Korean troops had little to no experience dealing with drone warfare. The result? Very heavy casualties on their side.
In other words, the soldiers were sent into a modern warzone equipped with old-school training. And it showed.
Meanwhile, the broader war between Russia and Ukraine continues with no end in sight. Both sides have lost many people. Russia has also taken serious hits, although Ukraine has had to give up some of its territories along the way.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has made his position clear. He has vowed to keep fighting until his country takes control of all the territories he believes belong to Russia. That means the fighting is not stopping anytime soon, no matter how many soldiers or how much money comes in from outside.
A Video Adds More Fuel
A video accompanying the report has also started circulating online. While the video itself does not show the money changing hands, it adds more weight to the story and has gotten people talking. As with many claims coming out of this war, it is wise to wait for official confirmation. But the numbers alone—15,000 soldiers, $620 million—are big enough to grab anyone’s attention.

For now, the story serves as another reminder of how this war has pulled in players from different corners of the world. North Korea was not originally part of the picture. But if this report is true, Kim Jong Un has now joined a long list of leaders who have thrown their weight behind Russia’s campaign. Whether that $620 million was worth the loss of so many unprepared soldiers is a question only history will answer.
