The Life of Aisha Bakari Gombi: Hero of Sambisa, the Fearless Hunter Who Fought Boko Haram While Pregnant

The Life of Aisha Bakari Gombi: Hero of Sambisa, the Fearless Hunter Who Fought Boko Haram While Pregnant.

Let me ask you something. Who remembers this woman?

Her name is Aisha Bakari Gombi. And honestly, more people should know about her.

She was born in the Gombi Sambisa community, located in Gombi local government area of Adamawa State. From a young age, she learned how to hunt. And she got very good at it. She would go into the Sambisa forest with her father, and over time, she came to know that forest like the back of her hand. Every path. Every hiding spot. Every danger.

Then Boko Haram came.

The Attack That Changed Everything

When the insurgency first started spreading, her village—Gombi—was among the first to be hit. Men were killed. Women and children were taken captive. The villagers who remained were forced to pay tax to the insurgents just to stay alive.

But Aisha refused.

She had spent years mastering the forest. She knew where the fighters camped. She knew how they moved. And instead of running or paying up, she decided to fight back.

She went around her village and spoke to people. She convinced 15 men to join her. They were not soldiers. They were not trained by anyone. They were just villagers who had had enough. Together, they went into the bush, laid an ambush, and took out a section of the Boko Haram group that had attacked her village.

Now here is the part that will stop you in your tracks. Aisha did all of this while carrying a pregnancy.

Yes. She was pregnant. And she still went to the bush to fight.

Her Name Spread Far

After that first successful operation, she did not stop. She and her men went on to help nearby villages that were also under attack. Word began to spread across the state. People started calling her names like “the hero of Sambisa” and “the woman who conquered fear.”

Then the Nigerian troops arrived. When they heard what she had done, they wanted to thank her properly. They asked her what she wanted. Money? A house? Something for her family?

Her answer shocked them.

She did not ask for money. She did not ask for a house. She asked for only one thing: to join the fight.

The army was so impressed that they granted her request. She was brought into the Nigerian Army as a volunteer. And from that point on, she and her men led many attacks on Boko Haram positions. Almost all of them were successful.

What Makes Her Different

Here is something else you should know. Aisha never fought with an AK-47. She never carried a machine gun. She did not rely on charms or any supernatural protection. All she used was a hunter’s gun, her deep knowledge of the Sambisa forest, and raw courage.

That is it.

She Is Still Here

A lot of people assume she died in the fight. But no. Aisha Bakari Gombi is still alive today. She is a mother to her children. She is a wife to her husband. And to the people of Gombi, she remains a warrior.

She is proof that you do not need a uniform or a fancy weapon to stand up against evil. Sometimes, all you need is a reason to fight and a heart that refuses to back down. That is who Aisha is. Unstoppable. Fearless. Brave. Bold. And completely unforgettable…see more
