Nigerian Man Kidnapped on Sokoto Road Regains Freedom After ₦100 Million Ransom.
Adegoke Jaiyesimi, the Nigerian traveler who was taken against his will on a highway leading to Sokoto State in early March, has finally returned home. Reports confirmed his release in the first week of April 2026, nearly one month after he disappeared.
Mr. Jaiyesimi was traveling on Saturday, March 6, 2026, when armed men intercepted his vehicle and took him away. For weeks, his family had no clear information about his condition until a short video began circulating on social media.
In that recording, Mr. Jaiyesimi appeared in a dusty open area, surrounded by several men holding rifles. His voice was shaky as he pleaded with Nigerians to help raise a hundred million naira. He said his captors had given him a deadline, and he did not believe he would survive if the money did not come through.

That video changed everything. Within days, ordinary citizens began sending donations. Friends, colleagues, and strangers who had never met him contributed what they could. According to sources close to the family, the full ransom amount was eventually raised and paid. The funds, they said, came almost entirely from public donations after the proof-of-life video went viral.

His brother, Pastor Tunde Jaiyesimi, had been the one speaking to the public throughout the ordeal. He shared updates on social media, asked for prayers, and confirmed when the family finally received news that Adegoke had been let go.
What made this case different from others was not just the ransom amount. It was a video that surfaced while Mr. Jaiyesimi was still in captivity. The man appeared relaxed, almost as if he was not bothered.

That video which went virtal made people to asked how criminals could operate so openly without fear of being identified or caught.
Mr. Jaiyesimi was not a public figure before this incident. He was simply a traveler trying to reach Sokoto. His abduction reminded many people that no road felt completely safe anymore. Conversations about security forces and their ability to protect citizens grew louder after his case gained attention.
When news of his release spread on April 5 and 6, 2026, relief poured in from different quarters. Social media users who had shared his video weeks earlier now celebrated his return.

Pastor Tunde Jaiyesimi issued a short statement expressing gratitude. He did not give many details about how the release happened or where his brother was picked up. He said the family needed time to recover and that Adegoke was receiving medical attention.
“We are grateful to every Nigerian who gave something, no matter how small,” the pastor wrote in one of his final updates on the matter. “We also thank those who shared the video and kept his name in the news. Without you, this would have ended differently.”
As of this report, no arrests have been announced in connection with the abduction. Security agencies in Sokoto and surrounding states have not issued any official statement on whether they are investigating the case or pursuing the men seen in the viral video.
For Mr. Jaiyesimi, the immediate focus is on recovery. His brother has asked that the family be given privacy as they help him readjust to normal life.
But for many Nigerians who followed the story closely, the feeling is mixed. There is happiness that a man was brought back alive. But there is also a lingering question: how many others are still in similar situations, without a viral video to save them?
The family has not said whether they plan to speak publicly again. For now, they say they are just glad to have him home.
