Truck Rams Into Shops in Gombe, Kills Policewoman and One Other.
A tragic accident happened in Gombe state on [day of week, if known, otherwise remove] when a truck lost control and crashed into several roadside shops. Two people lost their lives, including a policewoman.
The truck, which was reportedly moving at high speed, veered off the road and drove straight into the line of small shops. Many of these shops were open for business at the time, with traders and customers going about their normal day.
According to witnesses, the driver of the truck appeared to have lost control of the vehicle. Before anyone could get out of the way, the truck had already smashed into the shops. The sound of the crash sent panic through the area. People ran in different directions, some shouting for help.

When the dust settled, two bodies were pulled from the wreckage. One of them was a female police officer who was either passing by or standing near the shops at the time of the crash. The second victim was another person, whose name has not been released yet.
Several other people were also injured. They were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Some are said to be in serious condition.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene shortly after the accident. They worked to pull people out from under the debris and clear the area. The truck was later removed, but the damage had already been done.

One trader who saw everything happen spoke to our reporter. He was shaking as he described the scene. He said, “I was inside my shop when I heard a loud sound. The next thing I saw was the truck coming straight at us. I jumped out through the back. But my neighbour did not make it.”
Another witness said the policewoman tried to move out of the way but the truck was moving too fast. “She saw it coming and tried to run. But there was no time,” the witness said.
The driver of the truck is believed to have survived the crash. He has been taken into custody by the police, who have since opened an investigation into what caused the vehicle to lose control.
Some people at the scene suggested the truck may have had brake failure. Others said the driver may have been speeding. But until the police finish their investigation, no one can say for sure what really happened.
The bodies of the two victims have been recovered and taken to the morgue. Family members of the policewoman have already been notified. The family of the other victim is yet to be identified.
Roadside trading remains a common sight in many Nigerian cities, including Gombe. While it provides a way for people to earn a living, it also comes with serious risks. Accidents like this one have happened before, and they will likely keep happening unless something changes.
