Bandits’ Threat Letters Target Schoolchildren – Hunter Group Raises Alarm in Ogun.
Festus Ogundairo, who leads the Hunters’ Association in Odeda Local Government Area of Ogun State, has raised concerns over what he describes as a growing threat to schools in the region.
According to Ogundairo, those behind the planned attacks have reportedly sent letters threatening to kidnap schoolchildren. He said the information has been circulating widely on social media, and his members are taking it seriously.

“What is becoming more disturbing is what we are seeing on social media platforms — reports that bandits have sent letters threatening to come and kidnap schoolchildren,” Ogundairo said in a conversation with reporters.
His warning comes after a recent kidnapping incident close to a secondary school in the Odeda area. He explained that a man who managed a filling station nearby was taken around seven in the evening. The victim was later set free after money was paid to the captors.
Ogundairo pointed out that security problems are not new to the area, but the situation has become more worrying in recent weeks. He said the man who was taken was abducted at a spot just beyond the secondary school, which shows how close danger has come to learning environments.

Even with these challenges, he confirmed that security personnel have already started putting measures in place to stop any attack on schools. He did not give full details of those measures but said efforts are ongoing.
Still, he believes more needs to be done. Ogundairo called on the Ogun State government and security agencies to give local hunters better support. He argued that hunters know the bushes, paths, and hiding spots in the area better than outsiders who are brought in from other places.
“We need equipment and logistics,” he said. “We live here. We know every corner. Give us what we need, and we can help stop these people before they get close to any child.”
His appeal adds to a long list of calls from community-based security groups across Nigeria who feel left out of official security planning, even though they often serve as the first line of defence in rural areas.
As of the time of this report, the Ogun State Police Command had not released an official statement on the alleged threat letters. But parents and teachers in Odeda are already on edge, with some choosing to keep their children at home until more information comes out.
