“Nigeria Is Playing with Danger”: Burkina Faso Makes Extremist Imam Fight Terrorists, While Nigeria Lets Gumi Speak Freely – Social Media User Cries Out.
A comparison between how Burkina Faso handles extremist religious preachers and how Nigeria treats similar figures has ignited fresh conversations online. A social media user took to Facebook to share what happened recently in Burkina Faso, then turned the mirror on Nigeria.
According to the user, Abdulaziz Dawet authorities in Burkina Faso arrested an Imam who was caught preaching violence and extremism. The man’s sermons, the user said, encouraged and supported the activities of jihadists in the region. The Burkinabe forces did not waste time. They moved in and took him into custody.
But that was not the end of the story.

Some of the Imam’s followers, described by the user as “wanna-be jihadists,” decided to cause trouble. They took to the streets demanding the release of their leader. The Burkinabe forces responded again. They arrested those causing the chaos and took them to a military camp.
What happened next surprised many. The arrested individuals were given short-term military training and then deployed as foot soldiers to fight against the very terrorism they once supported.
The social media user did not stop at praising Burkina Faso’s method. The person quickly pointed a finger at Nigeria, specifically at the well-known Islamic scholar Ahmad Gumi.
“In Nigeria, on the other hand, we glorify such preachers,” the user wrote. “And some even go to the extent of calling the jihadists their fighters and wish the Nigerian forces don’t succeed.”
The user went further, accusing some figures of breeding what the person called “prodigal sons” and insisting that the government must either negotiate with bandits or rehabilitate them. The user described the situation as pathetic and warned that the Nigerian state is playing with danger.

This comparison has struck a chord with many Nigerians who have watched kidnapping and banditry spiral across the country for years. While Gumi has repeatedly called for dialogue with bandits and has been seen visiting their camps in the forest, critics say he has never faced any legal consequences for his approach. Some accuse him of giving cover to criminals.
On the other hand, Burkina Faso, a country also battling jihadist insurgencies, appears to be taking a harder line. Forcing an extremist preacher to fight on the frontline is not something many expected to hear, but the social media user presented it as proof that other nations are willing to go further than Nigeria in dealing with the problem.

As of this report, neither Ahmad Gumi nor any official from the Nigerian government has responded to the claims made by the social media user. Gumi has previously defended his position, saying that dialogue is the only way to end banditry because the military cannot fight every criminal in the forests.
But for many Nigerians who are tired of attacks, kidnappings, and the loss of loved ones, the Burkina Faso example is making them ask a simple question: If they can do it there, why can’t we do it here?
Toktok9ja Media will continue to monitor reactions from the public and any official responses that may come in the coming days.
